This substance is an organic compound that is used as an antifreeze in vehicles and a precursor for polymers. Monoethylene in its pure state is a colorless and odorless liquid with a sweet taste. Ethylene glycol is not miscible with diethylene glycol (a heavier diethyl ether) or with polyethylene glycol (a non-toxic polyether polymer).

In this project, natural gas is used as an input raw material and its oxidation is used to produce carbon monoxide (syngas). Mono carbon monoxide is produced with hydrogen, then the process is completed to produce mono ethylene glycol by using methanol and preparing methyl oxalate and adding hydrogen.
